How do I start an online shop selling musical instruments?

I would love to start an online business selling musical instruments, mainly Yamaha keyboards and digital pianos. I have experience in both the music business and and the retail industry.

Would I need to contact yamaha to declare myself a wholesaler? and what are the best deals/costs for setting up a commercial website?
cheers

Online shoppers want variety and low prices because they can navigate away in a second if you don’t have what they want. It’s very hard to compete with large online distributors. They have the ability to buy in bulk and can pass their reduced prices on to the customers plus they have extensive warehouse and shipping facilities not to mention extensive inventories.

Your best bet would be to find a niche market and specialize in it and use affiliate programs from places like Amazon, etc. A well crafted web site can get a lot of traffic, some of whom will buy something from the online stored linked on your site and then you get a cut.

ok well you would have to first start your own website, then you would have to start sorta "building" it up and make different pages and stuff, after that you could maybe take pictures of different instruments and put them on the computer on your website and sorta "describe" it on the sales page and you would probably have to wait at least a couple of months until you would get some buyers unless you advertise

    Hope I helped!!

Find a way to sell them without buying stock. You can find affiliate programs with companies and just get paid when you refer someone to buy their products.

Set up a site and provide tons of info related to instruments – how to buy various ones, how to start learning to play. There probably are also other companies that have programs on how to play instruments like keyboards or guitars and resell them too. It could be a good little online niche.

Not sure about the Yahama side of your question. It depends where you’re getting the instruments from. Will you benefit from being an authorised wholesaler?

As for setting up your site, here’s what we use. We register our domain names and do our web hosting through Easyspace. The first year’s domain and hosting is about £30, I think and then each year’s renewal is about £30 for each of them.

We use Roman Cart for our shop and that costs £99 plus VAT for a year and gives you up to 500 products in your shop. We use Paypal as our payment gateway and that’s it! You only pay charges on Paypal when you sell things and once you’re set up as a verified business user you can move money quite easily into your nominated business bank account.

    Good luck!
