What would be a good musical instrument for a novice muscician?
Well, I tried playing instruments in the past as a youth but got bored easily and quit. Now that I’m an adult with more patience and self discipline, I think I could successfully learn to play an instrument. Only thing I’m not sure about would be which one would be good for me.
A six string acoustic guitar. Here’s why.
An acoustic guitar is relatively cheap. You can get a new, decent one for under $200.00. You can do even better buying used.

An acoustic guitar is easy to play. You learn a few chords and you can then play hundreds of songs.
You don’t need anything else like an amp. An acoustic guitar is loud enough on it’s own.
An acoustic guitar is light and portable. You can take it to the beach or camping and amaze and entertain your friends.
You can sing and play at the same time. Try doing that with a saxophone.
The only other instument that fits all these requirement is the accordian. As the guitar is infinately cooler than the accordian, I suggest leaning to play that.

You should try guitar
when you know a few chords and you can switch between them you’re basically there and you can play some songs
and you could perform if you can sing :s

The piano is definitely the best decision here; you’re able to pick up music fundamentals much quicker and it’s not nearly as physically taxing as string or wind instruments.

Ukulele or Baritone ukulele. Both are similar to the guitar, but easier to play because they both have 2 strings less than a guitar. The baritone uke is tuned like the bottom four strings of a guitar, so if you decide to pick up guitar at some point many of the chords will be the same, or very similar.
