Fil-Am Vets Rondalla
In teaching history, how many of you would use a living history museum as a teaching instrument?
Do you think it will help students absorb the material being taught better?
History is a ‘living’ subject.
Whenever I get the chance to take the kids somewhere, such as a ‘living history museum’ I take them.
Yes, in my years of teaching I have found that going to the museum has greatly helped the absorption of history material.
Once they see, touch, hear what the museum has to offer then they start thinking in broader terms and history comes alive.
If you have the opportunity then by all means go for it.
We teachers can always use the help to teach and make something interesting.

Absolutly! Students need what is called meaningful learning. This means that when you are teaching as much close to reality as possible they willl really learn abiout what you try to teach them instead of just reading from a boring book. For example you teach about the Wright brothers and you can take them to the Smithonian to the the actual plane, they will remember and have a clear idea rather than looking at a small picture on their boring History book. Always remember that the funnier a class is the better they will learn.

It is not clear what you mean by a living history museum. Are you talking about something like a Civil War reenactment, or do you mean a class project where students role play historical figures? Actually, either one sounds fun. As for helping them absorb material, good luck. They are all morons.
Sorry, I just finished grading essays…
