I play flute and cello. I would recomend teh cello. It's pitch can be high or low. It can sound happy or sad. Cellists are way cooler solo artists. Even if you're small- the right sized cello will work. Cello's are more expensive than voilins or voilas but are more rewarding. They can also make great well-paying career options. They are also considered teh orchestra's most valued players.
References :
I say the flute, because I play the flute. Wow! how biased. But I really like the flute. I have been playing for about seven years and piccolo about three. I used to play the clarinet, but was more drawned to the flute because of the size and the how the instrument is played. I am always learning somthing new everyday. It can be played in band, orchestra and small ensembles and as a solo instrument. I don't like brass as much. they are loud and personaly obnoxious. But that is just my opionion. since they get to play real loud and outplay the band or orchestra, the trumpet players get very cocky, most all the ones I meet.: )

But, this is up to you, plus if you pick an instrument try to find a personal instructor, they will help you develop techique and help you find your potential and start the correct way of playing. But like any instrument wind instruments take a lot of air and practice. All I say is practice practice practice.

Good Luck!
References :
Piano performance major and active with flute at my collge.

It all depends on how you take to instruments. Brass / Wind players require not just the ability to move their hands but also control their levels of breathing, which believe me is a pain!!!

Im a grade 8 Clarinetist (classical) and also play the Tenor saxaphone and Flute. To learn the clarinet to this standard has taken me 4 yrs and alot of hard work! Im 1st clarinet in the south tyneside youth orcehstra in my region and to get there took a lot of hardwork.

Im not just bragging about this but I wouldnt swap my woodwind instruments for any other, they always sound much nicer than strings, and to be honest brass to get alot of melodies but it just becomes monotanous.

WOODWIND I WOULD SAY!!! CLARINET / FLUTE / OBOE / BASSOON / BASS CLARINET / ALTO.TENOR SAXAPHONE :-)
