Fil-Am Vets Rondalla

is there a site that tells you about the equipment and settings of certain bands?

i want to know how to achieve a specific sound of a certain instrument used by a certain band.

like for example, in Shake It by Metro Station, i know they use a keyboard for the intro, but how exactly did they set it? like did they use a tech brass voice setting with delay and tremolo and stuff like that? or in Kelsey, what voice did they use for the intro on keyboard?

thanks.

Eh, the only help I can offer is for guitar

I don’t know of a web page that does that.

That kind of question gets answered in music production magazines. In the UK there are magazines like Future Music, Computer Music, and some of the guitar mags, which run features about how to get particular sounds. Then people write in to the magazine’s experts, saying "how do I get that sound?", and if they’re lucky the answer’s printed in the magazine.

Sometimes if you go to their direct site(if they have one), not myspace or the particular band members site you could get lucky because, there will be interviews telling how they made a song (especially if its a popular one) and a listing of their favorite brands of instruments, and sometimes even down to the type of guitar picks they like to use.

The simple answer is no. Consider for a moment, everything you’d have to know. You’d need to know the exact model and revision of the keyboard, the exact patch that was used, all the parameter settings, etc. Now on top of that you’d need to know all of the processors (reverb units, compressors, delays, etc) and their associated revision levels that were used in the recording process.

Now not only is that a lot of information to gather, you’d have to find the original folks that are willing to give out that information. Very few sound/recording engineers will offer up all of the details willingly. Same with the musicians. In fact the musicians may not even play the song the same way every time.

You might find basic information in a magazine that tells you what equipment they used like (well I put reverb and delay on the keys) but you still need all the details (decay, delay time, etc).

This is why even though many bands can play the same song, people pay the biggest money to see the original artist perform it.
