i have a biology worksheet and some questions i cant do .. plzz help me with that!?
- how can repetitive training results in problems for a ballet dancer?? (our topic is bones, muscles and injuries; so i think the problem should be sth related to them.)
- What makes up an elbow? which bones? what other tissues?
- what is the name of the operation whereby a tube-like instrument is inserted into a joint to inspect, diagnose and repair tissues?
- What does and MRI allows doctors to see, that cannot be seen with an X-ray?
- How can you tell that someone is growing up by looking at a bone X-ray?
- What is used to replace a cruciate ligament? What happens to that replacement over time?
- How can sport science help us to avoid a lot of unnecessary injuries?
- how can repetitive training results in problems for a ballet dancer?? (our topic is bones, muscles and injuries; so i think the problem should be sth related to them.)
First off, humans were not made to walk around on the tips of our toes. When ballet dancers go en pointe, they are exerting forces on their feet that structurally the feet aren’t designed to handle. This puts them at higher risk of compressing joint spaces or fracturing bones.
- What makes up an elbow? which bones? what other tissues?
The elbow is a joint between three bones (the humerus in the upper arm and the radius and ulna from the forearm), and has numerous tendons and ligaments that attach in that area to provide anchorage for the muscles, such as the biceps, triceps, brachioradialis, and other forearm muscles. There is also a bursa in there which is a fluid-filled sac that acts as a shock absorber.
- what is the name of the operation whereby a tube-like instrument is inserted into a joint to inspect, diagnose and repair tissues?
Arthroscopy (with the word roots "arthro" meaning joint and "scopy" meaning see.
- What does and MRI allows doctors to see, that cannot be seen with an X-ray?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging can show details of soft tissue structures such as tendons, muscles, and ligaments. X-rays can only show bone and the shadow of surrounding soft tissue.
- How can you tell that someone is growing up by looking at a bone X-ray?
Look at the ends of bones for what are called the growth plates. These usually don’t close until the person has reached their mid to late teens.
- What is used to replace a cruciate ligament? What happens to that replacement over time?
If a cruciate needs to be replaced, you can use a donor bone-tendon-bone graft from a cadaver.
- How can sport science help us to avoid a lot of unnecessary injuries?
Teaches physical training skills that allow people to tolerate the controlled abuse their bodies take in sports. Provide taping or braces to support injured joints. Provide rapid evaluation and care of injuries when they happen, and are able to recommend that the athlete leave the game so as to not cause further or more severe injury.

Given that it’s breast cancer awareness month…?
Can a modern Feminist help me with this… If a high energy (ionizing spectrum) photon is emitted, is there an external instrument that can be used to determine whether this photon originated from the nucleus of an atom or as a result of an electron’s change in energy?
In other words, are there instruments available that can distringuish between a ɣ ray versus an x-ray? If so, please provide a reference to where such an instrument can be obtained and the appropriate settings for such an instrument.
I’ve attempted to ask this in other forums with no success, so I wanted to ask this of modern Feminists who are the experts on women’s matters.
for the record, i’m a progressive man. I am aware of breasts all year long!
That silliness out of the way, i encourage all women whom i care about to get examined (by medical professionals other than me) frequently.

To the Christians on YA who have said that science is evil or who dislike science, a question for you?
This question is for those who have admitted that they think science is evil or don’t believe the scientific method has any value. I am *not* accusing all Christians of this behavior – nowhere in this question do I imply that. So to those who don’t like science:
Are you prepared to give up the following?
Computers, television, radio, cars, clocks, stoves, refrigerators, microwave ovens, central heating, air conditioning, eyeglasses, antibiotics, analgesics, surgery, x-rays, antihistamines, immunizations, sterilized medical instruments, plastic, telephones, airplanes, electric lights, washing machines, dryers, elevators, microphones, cameras, toothpaste, microscopes, cd players, iPods, BlackBerries, DVD players, TiVo, guns, pasteurized milk, adhesive bandages, amusement park rides, movie theaters……………..
Perhaps – but with science you have to accept that the results you got are what they are. If a person only accepts what conveniently supports their beliefs, and tosses out the rest, then that isn’t science.
I have read where Christians said that on YA twice just tonight.
Christians invented science?? What happened to the Greeks, and Romans, and Chinese, and….. And wasn’t the scientific method at least in part invented by a Muslim (Ibn al-Haytham)?
OMG – I have read at least 30 questions tonight but I will try to find them.
Well, here is one: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081008164724AA12pyt
Well, bubba, I didn’t say anything about those other questions until someone asked so why would I have originally posted links that were not related to my question? If I say "hey atheists do you like strawberry milk?" I don’t have to post links to show that some atheists like strawberry milk. Now you have one – I am looking for the other.
lol, if they truly disliked science then they wouldn’t be able to use a computer and answer this question..

Preciousp: a question about Ameriplan?
You wrote: "Recently I went to dentist and had x-rays, teeth cleaning and some polishing, my total bill came out to $197 but I only paid $59…"
If this is true (and I highly doubt it is) this dentist paid YOU to come in. Hygienists earn between $36 and $45 an hour, an exam by the doctor costs the practice, instruments had to be sterilized (I hope), x-ray film used and developed. If your visit lasted an hour – as any decent checkup should – the cost to the practice was at least $175 and probably more like $250.
What dentist would accept $59, when it costs them more than that to have you in their chair?
Although I do not agree with this concept, as you well know, some "plans" arrange a deal with the dentist to accept below cost on the cleaning, x-ray and examination visit. The plans do this on the premise that it is worth it to the dentist to get the hot prospect into the office so you can find stuff to make money on. It’s like the "free brake inspection" at Midas. They do it for free, hoping to find out that you need new brakes. And, by the way, did you see that hole in the front end of your catalytic converter???
