How can i get rid of shyness when playing an instrument?

Well, i play the saxophone very gracefully everyone says that, but when i have to play alone i get really REALLY shy and start shaking i screw up in parts and play really fast and miss a beat!
my band teacher is really understanding when it comes to me since im always shy and quiet plus im the only girl that plays this wonderful instrument! I want to stop getting this feeling! :| any ideas?
ty :)
and merry christmas! :)

The biography of Albert Einstein describes how he felt shy playing violin for an audience. But soon, he lost himself into the wonderful notes that he had thoroughly practised.
Try the proven example. Try to practise well, get lost into music, to simply become ‘unavailable’ to be shy as a ‘person’!

Dirty Dentist Office?

I went to a dentist, who was recommended by a couple of friends, yesterday and I am still traumatized. The dentist didn’t use gloves and asked me to hold the little film thing in my mouth with my fingers, so he can do an x-ray. I was so disgusted I am wondering if this guy actually used cleaned his instruments after he used them on the person before me!!! He probably did because it would have bad consequences for him but I’ll never go back to this place. Are dentist offices inspected by the health department???

In a few states I’ve worked in they are inspected by a board. Although there are some dentists that, when handling normal things may use their hands. Those xray films are sterile, kept in foil like packages to prevent double exposure. If he was just asking you to open up and he just looked in the mouth, there was no need to wear gloves, unless he actually touched an instrument or went into your mouth. Some people don’t like this and believe me a dentist does not take offense if you ask him to wear gloves at all times. They are required by law to sterilize all instruments, and the instruments are sealed while sterilizing to prevent contamination. The rooms are all wiped down with an anti-microbial and instruments are rotated every few weeks even if they haven’t been used, and are re-sterilized. If the doctors manner offends you, or if there was any problems, do call the board. It’s up to you, but without knowing the whole situation it is hard to tell. Dentists don’t usually wear gloves when in consult, (Just talking) to the patient. Only you can judge whether the situation was bad. YOU were there, and if he stuck his fingers in your mouth without gloves or touched instruments, then report it. It’s people like that who give Dentistry a bad name.

What is the best instrument for carpel tunnel sufferers?

I think I am developing carpel tunnel in my wrist because it become extremely tired (and a little sore) when playing piano. When I try tapping my left and right hand fingers, my left hand cannot keep up with my right at all. So is there another instrument I can play that is easy on the wrist?

timpani? I play timpani and piano and timpani is pretty easy on your wrist.

what instruments utilize only static pressure?

what instruments utilize only static pressure?
Thanks to everybody except that one jerk-off! This is what I thought, but I thought I was missing one for some reason.

Altimeter and VSI.

You didn’t ask, but the Airspeed Indicator uses static pressure in addition to pitot pressure.

what can flutes/piccs do that no other instrument can do?

ok so what can flutes/piccs do that no other instrument can do? besides playing really high??? i just want to know becuz some people that i know who are brass and low woodwind tease me cuz i play flute/picc. though i think they are just jealous cuz i can play really fast trills and stuff like that :)

The flute uses more rapid airflow than ANY other instrument- including the tuba! (That is why many people get dizzy when they start learning the flute.) We have no REED – all the formation of the tone is done through OUR skill in embouchure formation. The flute is the most acoustically pure instrument ( meaning it most clearly demonstrates the scientific principles of tone production). The flute is capable of more tonal flexibility (rapid changes of register and octave) than any other woodwind OR brass instrument. The flute usually is required to play more rapid notes than any other woodwind or brass instrument – luckily for us, we CAN!!! The flute is the ONLY wind instrument wherein the tube material can be entirely silver, gold, platinum, or other precious metals like palladium, titanium, or proprietary compounds like aurumite – that specifically affect the tonal properties of the instrument. The flute is the only woodwind that can create all the notes of the chromatic scales over 3 1/2ocatves, using the SMALLEST number of keys (therefore, we need to now more advanced and alternate fingering than any other woodwind). The flute (family) is the only instrument that is played horizontally.

Yes, people are jealous of our instrument, our skills, and the amazing combination that those two things TOGETHER can accomplish. Tsk tsk tsk – they had their chance to choose the flute, and they chose poorly – we chose wisely.

What instrument is the most fun?

I play the bassoon, i have played and tried many different instruments like the saxophone, flute, and trumpet. they were all fun because i got to try a new thing, but i would like to try a different instrument, more in the woodwind side and low brass. What one should i do next.

Trombone would be a good one for you. It would be a challenge because of the slide, but also fun because of the slide. :) It will also help to improve your ear.
Good luck and have fun! :)

Could someone edit part of my French project?

My teacher wasn’t in school Friday, so I couldn’t get her to edit the rest of my French postcard. Could someone please help me out. I couldn’t figure out how to type accents, that’s why they’re absent, but I mostly want to make sure I used passe compose and imperfect properly, and my sentences make sense.

The next time writes directly in English, I spent more time to translate from French to French that to correct it. Thank you for advance.

Do I need lessons in order to play an instrument and write music?

Hey, I’ve been playing bass for about 3 years now.
In terms of knowing scales or other things that are learned from taking lessons I don’t anything about them.
But are they necessary to be in a band or write music?
How much does a person need to know?
Do I have to know how to read music?
Are there any famous musicians who never learned how to "play" their instrument?

Not necessarily. But, being able to read music will come in handy, believe me. Even though I had piano lessons for three months and bailed out because my teacher forbid me of spending my time on writing my own music, I had learned before her. Having a chorus class helped me understand music theory, therefore helping me be able to read music on my own. You can create anything with an instrument without being able to read music, but in the future you might need that skill. If you want to play a song that you haven’t played in awhile and have forgotten, you can go by the music. If you are in a band, (not saying this can’t be done without the sheet music) but if the parts were written out, it would be easier to keep track of your own part and your transitions. It can be done without it, it’s just more concrete and accurate with it.

what kind of equipment do I need to play pocket pool?

Are there special instruments or certain grips that will make me a better player?

Pocket pool- is that a little tiny pool table you can fit in your pocket? That sounds very cute. Just make sure there are no holes in your pocket, you’ll be reaching in there all day to make sure it doesn’t fall out, people might get the wrong impression.
